Cleaning and maintaining a flight case

With prolonged use of the carrying cases, eventually suffer damage or deterioration. Their care and maintenance prolong their useful life and contribute to sustainability and savings.

There are several cleaning supplies you can use to care for a flight case. To do this, we'll need to gather:

  • Cleaning cloths or microfiber cloths. Make sure they are lint-free fabrics so that no residue remains on some parts of the flight case. You can also use cleansing foams, vacuum cleaners either soft brushes for cleaning some areas.
  • GlovesWe recommend wearing gloves for safe cleaning, as some products can be harmful if they come into direct or prolonged contact with the skin. Depending on the intensity of the cleaning, you can use latex gloves (for general cleaning) or nitrile gloves (for deeper cleaning or in professional settings).
  • Professional cleaning products. The surface and interior of the flight case could be further damaged if the appropriate products are not used. The use of professional adhesive cleaners, degreasers and anticorrosives to remove traces of labels, grease, and add protection. If your flight case has any type of screen printing, make sure the product you use isn't too aggressive to damage it.

There are many products and brands you can use, so which one you use will depend on the characteristics of the material your flight case is made of and what kind of treatment you want to give it. Contact the product manufacturers if you have any questions.

Before you start

The first thing you need to do before you start cleaning your flight case is to empty it completely. Remove all objects and loose foam from the case to ensure they aren't damaged during cleaning. Check the interior for any damage or imperfections to take note of.

Next, prepare the products you'll be using. Make sure you clean in a well-ventilated area and wear appropriate protection.

Interior cleaning

You can start by vacuuming the inside of the flight case to remove small debris and dust. You can also use a sticky roller to remove lint, especially if the tools stored inside are used for beauty work (hairdressing, dog grooming, etc.).

Using a cloth or cleaning foam, rub the interior walls with the appropriate product. Ideally, let it air dry and then replace any foam protection if it wasn't already attached to the flight case. If the interior has foam, you can use compressed air to clean it and a hairdryer to dry the foam or correct any damage.

The technical foam In principle, it doesn't require any maintenance as such, but keep it away from moisture to prevent deterioration and the growth of mold or mildew. If it's severely damaged or deteriorated, replace it.

Exterior cleaning

For exterior cleaning, first wipe the surface with a cloth to remove dust. Then apply degreaser to remove grease, non-stick coating, or whatever cleaning product you need to remove any remaining dirt.

Before applying any other product, let the exterior dry. Check the condition of the corner guards, sheet metal, and other exterior fittings to see if they need cleaning or are damaged. You can use metal polish to polish them and check the screws and other fasteners for looseness. Occasionally, lubricate the wheels (if present), locks, and hinges. If any fittings are severely damaged, repair or replace them.
